The Lokmanya Medical Foundation on Friday announced the establishment of its Comprehensive Cancer Control Centre on the occasion of World Cancer Day, adjacent to Lokmanya Hospital in Chinchwad.

The centre will be dedicated to comprehensive work on cancer and other chronic diseases. The registration of patients for cancer treatment at concessional rates also started from Friday.

The centre will emphasise on integration of allopathic treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and complementary treatments such as Ayurveda, homoeopathy, Yoga, meditation, herbal therapy, diet therapy, acupuncture and other
alternative therapies.

“The centre will prove to be a pioneering project of integrated cancer care in India. This the second centre having radiotherapy facility in Pune and the third in Maharashtra,” eminent radiotherapist, Dr Arvind Kulkarni, who will head the centre, said.

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (Mumbai) has sanctioned a Bhabatron-II radiotherapy unit costing Rs2 crore for the centre, which will reduce the cost of treatment.

After a thorough medical check-up and tests, each patient will be given individual advice about how best to deal with his/ her cancer problem. In addition to allopathic treatments, the centre will provide various other alternative therapies to patients suffering from cancer and other chronic diseases.

The centre also plans to educate the general public, schoolchildren and industrial workers in the area about health maintenance and cancer prevention methods.
