The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at its two-day conclave in New York invoked Swami Vivekananda to bond with the Americans. Deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who delivered a sentimental speech, said, “In Swami Vivekananda’s words, I say, ‘My dear Indian brothers and sisters from America, thank you very much’.”

Describing the conclave as a historic moment, he added, “We bring to you a breath of fresh air and a prayer that your prosperity is our true delight and your success is our hope. I am only echoing the feelings of all of us across the seas. And with time, we shall prove that this distance only bonds closer all the time.”

The conclave talked of building a lasting partnership between India and America through the political party and Bhujbal minced no words to praise NCP president Sharad Pawar. “NCP is the incarnation of Sharad Pawar’s vibrant and enduring dream, which is to build a socio-political platform for serving the needs of the poorest while building an inclusive progressive society. Pawar is at home with the masses, be it at Baramati or Boston, Mumbai or New York or New Delhi. We are here to make you part of the NCP family,” said Bhujbal.

Later, the non-resident Indians (NRIs) raised concerns about their voting rights rather than raising queries related to ministry of agriculture or civil aviation. Highly-placed sources in the NCP said, “The interaction session with NRIs to apprise them of the party ended with majority asking when the Indian government would give them the voting rights.”
