The first phase of the much-awaited widening of Nashik-Pune Road finally got the Centre’s green signal for the Nashik-Sinnar patch. The finance department’s public private partnership (PPP) committee has also cleared the plan.

Nashik-Pune has become one of the busiest roads and proposals for a rail line and extension of roads were being pursued for a long time.

Sinnar on his highway is also becoming a hub of activity with the existing Malegaon industrial estate and the upcoming India Bulls

SEZ, leading to heavy traffic in future.
The total cost of the project, including road widening and bypass to Sinnar town, is estimated at Rs313 crore, with the Centre sharing Rs65.5 crore.

The project will incorporate 25.31 km of four laning on the Nashik-Sinnar Road, including the Sinnar bypass, new six-lane bridge on Darna river, underground path and roadways on the square at Ghoti Road, Chincholi Phata, Shinde, Naygaon, Nashik-Karhana Phata, and Deolali Phata between Nashik Road and Chehedi.
A service road has also been planned from Nashik Road to Chehedi.

“The project’s detailed proposal was sent to the Centre by the state government in August 2009. It is based on the central government report 2008 on road tariff. The report had neither concession for vehicles in Nashik district nor any concession for registered vehicles in Nashik and Sinnar. Strong efforts to get the facility for local residents were made with a follow-up with the highways ministry.

Accordingly, changes were made in 2008 road tariff policy and implemented by December 2010-January 2011 order and business vehicles from the district without national permit will now get 50% concession in tariff,” MP Sameer Bhujbal said.
