Central Railway (CR) commuters can expect to reach home on time on Friday evening as railway officials have given an assurance that all the pending technical works will be concluded and train services normalised.

On Wednesday  services on the central lines were badly affected as 68 signals went off with a blip after two relay rooms at Kurla and one at Vidyavihar caught fire.

Vidyadhar Malegaonkar, CR chief spokesperson, said the administration is optimistic about being able to complete three major pending works, such as cabin recabling, relay room equipment refitting and, most importantly, testing of equipment in the section while maintaining train operations.

The CR claimed that services were delayed by 20-25 minutes in the Down direction on Thursday. The CR had planned to run 972 services on Thursday. But until 5pm, it operated 792 services and claimed that it will achieve the target by the end of the day.
