While their contemporaries are chalking out plans to make Valentine’s Day special with their boyfriend or fiancé, this gang of girls doesn’t bother with any such conventions.

For them, Valentine’s Day is an occasion to celebrate their special bond of friendship.

This all girl group who passed out from Vidya Bhavan Junior College in 2005 still make it a point to meet up every year on
Valentine’s Day and head out for some fun together.

Preeti Gaikwad, member of the group, who is now a HR executive, said, “Why should only boys have fun? We all come together on Valentine’s Day and spend the whole day together. If V-day falls on a week day, we look for the nearest Sunday to spend time together.”

Poonam Jackello, who works as a quality analyst in an outsourcing company says that though they passed out of Vidya Bhavan Junior College, Shivajinagar in 2005, their friendship has grown even after parting ways.

This is one day when their boyfriends or husbands usually takes a backseat. Sheetal Gaikwad another member of the group who now works as a HR executive with Just Dial Pune, said, “Valentine’s Day has always been special for all of us, as we have been spending time only with our group, and not with boys. Even during our college days, this particular day was reserved for just our gang of girls. So this day is one dedicated to my friends.”

And this year too, is no different for these girls. On their plans for this year, Preeti Kale, a lighting artiste in the animation industry said, “Why do we have to spend time only with our boyfriends or husbands? Isn’t it this day for all we love? This is why we spend time together. We cannot go out on the very day itself so we look for the closest Sunday and on Valentine’s Day we at least meet for coffee or dinner, which is a mark of our friendship.”

Jyoti Bala Singh, who is a homemaker now, said, “Though life is different after marriage I still want to spend my Valentine’s Day with special people whom I have known for eight years.”

Sharon Manickam, a bank employee is super-excited to be with friends. “Since I work in Mumbai, I am not always here to meet my friends, which is why I wait for this day when we make it a point to meet. Though I am not in this picture, this is very important for me as it is one of my special memories.”
