The Bombay high court on Monday transferred the investigations into the murder case of Pune-based builder Nikhil Rane, to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).

Holding that for the last two years as there had been no headway by the Pune police, the investigations were transferred to the CBI by the division bench of justice  BH Marlapalle and justice
UD Salvi.

The bench in their order said that the investigation should not be done by an officer below the level of assistant commissioner of police, his team would have two police inspectors and the over all supervision of the case should be done by a high ranking official.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Ashwini Rane, wife of slain Pune-based builder Nikhil Rane, seeking transfer of investigation to an independent agency since there was no progress in the investigation.

Rane was critically injured on November 23, 2009 when gangsters fired at him from close range.  He succumbed to his injuries a week later.

The petition said police probe was going nowhere and sought transfer of the case to the CBI.  Four persons were arrested, but nothing came of their interrogation, police said.  On July 13, the government passed an order handing over investigation to the state CID.
