Not willing to give the Malegaon 2006 blast case accused a clean chit as yet, the CBI on Friday opposed the bail application saying that one Aseemanand’s confession cannot be a base for their further investigation.

The CBI prosecutor Raja Thackeray argued on Friday before the court that even if the confession by Aseemanand were to be believed that Hindu extremists were behind the blast, it was premature to give a clean chit to the arrested accused. “Authenticated copy of the confession is yet to be received by us. Is not the defence being haste in already moving towards the court seeking bail?” said Thackeray.

As per Aseemanand’s confession the RSS murdered worker Sunil Joshi and others were responsible for Malegaon 2006 blasts.

The CBI on January 13 had moved an application stating that it would need to conduct a further investigation following fresh probe in view of disclosures made. The application which was moved under section 173 (8) of the Criminal Procedure Code was accepted by the special MCOCA court.

Since the blast, the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrested nine men in that connection. The charge sheet filed by the ATS on November 27, 2006 had arrested eight persons all of those held being former SIMI members.
