Carzonrent (India) Pvt Ltd today launched its radio taxi service in Mumbai under the brand name of 'Easy Cabs'.
Mumbai is the fourth city where the emerging personal ground transportation company has introduced its radio taxi service after Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, Carzonrent CEO, Rajiv Kr Vij, said.
A fleet of hundred silver-coloured brand new SUVs equipped with modern features were flagged off here which would be available at dialing an easy-to-remember number, 43434343.
"We plan to increase the number of cars upto 1,000 by next year," Vij told media persons here.
"The fare would be Rs 14 per kilometer," he said.
"The cars would be equipped with air-conditioners, GPS, GPRS tracking, mobile data terminals, in-car credit card payment, newspapers, water bottles and wet tissues, among others," he said.
The SUVs would be driven by well-trained drivers to ensure safety of passengers, he added.
When asked if his service would have any negative impact on the existing 55,000 black-yellow cabs in the city, Vij said, "we don't intend to compete with anybody nor aim to out throw other players. Our move would help the Maharashtra government improve the transportation infrastructure in the city."
Joint Transport Commissioner, Satish Shastrabudhe, who flagged-off the fleet of SUVs that would be on the roads from
today, said, "services of Easy Cabs would help the administration provide safer and comfortable rides to commuters."
When asked that whether such a service would compound the problems of traffic congestions and parking being faced by car-users in the city, he said such problems should not occur
since Easy Cabs would be on the move all the time.
He said the cars would be environment-friendly as well since they would run on CNG.
The cars under Easy Cabs would be available twenty- four hours with a permissible service limit up to 70-kilometres which extends upto Panvel in Navi Mumbai.
