Cyber Space has again been hit by two new viruses which can cause heavy damage. One of the virus named as Bredolab is circulating widely through spam mails comes from the family of Trojan downloaders which downloads and installs rogue anti-virus programmes onto the infected computers about which the user has no knowledge.

This virus comes to the victim through mails with subjects like Facebook password reset confirmation, UPS invoice, Western Union Money Transfer available to withdraw’.

Also this virus installs password stealers into the infected systems and keeps sending data from the infected computer which could be important files containing classified information about the user like his bank account details, identity details and other important things.

Once this information is leaked from the infected computer it can lead to heavy losses for the user as his account details and passwords can be used for phishing or his identity details can help people involved in making these viruses hack into their mail account and misuse it.

Few months back, email accounts of two senior doctors from the city was hacked into and was further misused by the hacker to send emails to people in the contact list of the doctors asking for monetary help through money transfer in a foreign country.

Another email widely received by people in October was regarding some spyware or malware being detected on the users’ machine. This virus has been named Fakerean which isagain from the Trojandownloader family comes throughcompromised
websites to the victim and mentions about some malware being detected.

It then pretends to scan the machine and installs an open source anti-virus scan engine to the machine and at the same time with a signature file which later detects malware. This way, the virus convinces the infected machine user to buy the anti-virus software which is actually rogue software.

Vijay Mukhi, e-security expert said, ‘’Most of these viruses are made and sent by people involved into phishing and cyber frauds, it is very difficult to trace the person or mastermind behind these viruses as hey are sent globally through random emails”. He added, ‘ Also the anti-virus malware virus is made to cheat people and make a quick buck’’.

The only way suggested by experts to avoid getting ones machine infected by such viruses to no click on emails from unknown senders or with subjects mentioned above.
Also the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has sent an alert about the two viruses on October 29.
