Traffic will be diverted in the Bund Garden area after the completion of the under-construction four-lane bridge within one-and-a-half months.

The traffic police have decided that those coming from Garden Road (opposite Council Hall) will not take right a turn using the road near Old Circuit House and Residency Club to proceed to Bund Garden.

Instead, vehicles will have to proceed straight and cross the overbridge near Customs and Central Excise office and proceed to Bund Garden. The vehicles can either pass through the new bridge or go towards Yerawada or Deccan College.

“Similarly, vehicles coming from North Main Road in Koregaon Park and wanting to go towards Deccan College or Ahmednagar Road would have to take a left turn to the Chowk near Taj Blue Diamond and move straight to the new bridge,” said deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Manoj Patil.

He added that one part of the existing bridge would be meant for pedestrians only. No vehicles would be allowed on that section of the bridge.

The four signals at Parnakuti Chowk (on the Yerawada side of the existing bridge), Mahatma Gandhi junction, Sadal Baba Chowk and Central Mall would be permanently removed.

Three pedestrian signals would be put up at strategic points with a waiting time of 15 to 20 seconds.

Patil said that a scientific survey was undertaken before deciding to implement the circular traffic scheme in Bund Garden area.
