A 28-year-old year BMC engineer has absconded three weeks before his wedding to avoid getting married to a girl arranged for him by his parents.

“Adinath Sable, residing at Thane on rent, has been missing from the Kurla railway station since March 22. He is a junior engineer at L-ward, Kurla (East), and has worked at the BMC for the past three years,” said SM Sable, elder brother of the victim.

He added that a missing person complaint was lodged at Kurla railway police on March 28.

Sable said that Adinath’s wedding was arranged by his parents in Aurangabad. He was engaged to a 20-year-old girl, studying in her 12th standard, on February 19, with the wedding slated to be held on April 14.

Sable suspected that Adinath may have been upset about getting married to a less educated girl, and might have run away to avoid the wedding. He was last seen at Kurla railway station on March 22. Since then, his phone has been switched off.

Adinath’s family members searched for him for a week before lodging a missing complaint, Sable said, and admitted he did not know the exact reason behind his younger brother’s disappearance.

“We have sent photos of Adinath along with his description to all the railway police stations, city police stations in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad. His mobile phone number is kept under observation,” said sub-inspector SR Shinde of Kurla railway police station.
