The class IX student of St Elias High School at Khar, who verbally abused and slapped his principal, has tested negative for traces of alcohol and drug consumption. Following media reports that the boy was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, his mother got her son’s urine tested, without his knowledge. The results of ‘Five Drug Panel’ which tests for Cocaine, Marijuana, Opiates, Amphetamine and THC (Tetrahydrocannabino) were negative.
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) will hold a hearing into the matter on March 30.

The school had handed him his school leaving certificate on the day of the incident itself and maintained they would the child back only if he apologised.

The teenage student’s widowed mother, a poor fish seller said she now had definite proof that that her son’s outburst on March 15 wasn’t because of drugs or alcohol. “He lost his temper and slapped his principal in the heat of the moment. I do not support his actions. But I request the school to take him back and counsel him,’’ she said. She added that the ‘bad behaviour’ remark on his certificate would make it difficult for him to get admission in other schools.

The mother in desperation approached the MPCR, who sent notices to both parties. The hearing has been scheduled on March 30 at 2.30pm.
