Bombay high court upholds 12-year sentence awarded to rapist constable

The Bombay high court today upheld the 12-year sentence awarded to Sunil More, former police constable accused of raping a minor girl inside a police chowki six years ago.

A division bench of Justice PV Hardas and Justice MN Gilani dismissed More's appeal challenging a trial court's conviction against him on rape charges.

"More's appeal is dismissed. We are conforming the 12 year sentence awarded to him," Justice Hardas remarked.

The court also dismissed an appeal filed by the state government seeking enhancement of the sentence.

On April 27, 2005, More, in an inebriated state, had raped a minor girl inside the Marine Drive police chowki in South Mumbai.

A year later, a sessions court convicted him and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment.
