The Bombay High Court on Friday upheld the decision of the Raigad district collector to notify all liquor shops and bars/permit rooms to remain closed during the zilla parishad elections in the district.
“The collector has the right under the Bombay Prohibition Act and the Maharashtra Foreign Liquor Rules of 1969 in the larger interest of the society,” the HC said. The Raigad District Wine Merchants Association had moved the HC challenging the circular issued by district collector HK Jawale.
