The Bombay High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) while hearing a a public interest litigation seeking the recovery of the over Rs5 crore arrears due to the Navi Mumbai police for the protection given to Indian Premier League 2010.

The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Nitin Jamdar of HC was hearing a PIL filed by Santosh Pachalag (42), the Navi Mumbai BJP secretary, seeking action against the police officers who have not attempted to recover the 2010 dues from the BCCI or even given a bill for the security they provided for the 2011 IPL matches.

When Ganesh Sovani, the petitioner’s advocate, argued that the non-payment of police dues highlighted the BCCI’s apathy, additional government pleader SR Nargolkar revealed that only Rs48 lakh has been recovered. To this, the chief justice said: “It is only 10 percent of the total dues.”
