The Junnar police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), in a joint operation, recovered the bodies of four engineering college students from Pimplegaon Joge dam on Tuesday. Two students are from Pune.

The mishap took place on Monday afternoon, when the students visited the dam to go for a swim. The victims have been identified as Abhijit Anil Yende, 17, of Ambegaon Pathar in Katraj, Mayur Dattatray Gore, 19, of Aawasari Budruk in Pune, Siddhant Sukhdev Bhor, 18, of Vikhroli, Mumbai, and Shivam Rajendra Pande, 20, of Thane.

Police inspector AD Damse of Junnar police station told DNA, “On Tuesday at 9am, we began a joint operation, along with the NDRF of Talegaon Dabhade, and recovered the bodies by 10am. Around 70 NDRF personnel were deployed for the operation.”

“The post-mortems were conducted at the primary health centre in Otur and the bodies handed over to the parents. About 250 people were present,” Damse added.

On Monday afternoon, the victims and eight other students of Sharadchandra Pawar College of Engineering in Dumberwadi, Junnar, had gone to the dam for swimming after the college declared a holiday as its founder, Vilas Tambe, passed away the same day. A student, who did not know swimming, fell into the water. The other four, none of whom knew swimming, jumped in to save him. Although they saved him, they drowned.
