To beat its water woes, the city has turned to Singapore for help. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated talks with the Public Utilities Board (PUB), Singapore’s national water agency for identifying areas where their assistance can be sought to improve Mumbai’s water supply.

Globally, PUB has been acknowledged as an agency that has achieved remarkable success in improving the water distribution in Singapore. In the past couple of days, two rounds of interactions have already happened between the BMC and PUB officials.

According to a senior BMC official, the civic body is keen to rope in technical assistance from the PUB to reduce the amount of unaccounted for water, to plan and adopt technologies for recycling sewerage water and for commissioning the desalination plants.

Anil Diggikar, additional municipal commissioner, said that the BMC wanted to learn and gain from the experiences of the PUB. However, according to sources, the modalities on the exact nature of the exchange are yet being finalised.
