With two days left for the BMC polls, the Mumbai police are all geared up to ensure that voting across the city is smooth.

The police have opened two emergency numbers for citizens to inform the police in case of any polling-related crime or untoward incident.

"In the municipal election, stakes are extremely high for all political parties and it's a major challenge for the police. We have to literally fan out to every lane and person to ensure nothing goes wrong," said police commissioner Arup Patnaik.

Starting Wednesday, police officials will start being deployed.
"Tomorrow voting machines will be shifted to polling booths.

Senior officers will be on supervisory rounds," said Patnaik.
A total of 2,375 police officers and 20,000 policemen will be deployed at polling booths across the city.

"Apart from this, 2,000 home guards, five companies of State Reserve Police Force have been roped in and Rapid Action Force men will be deployed at strategic locations," he added.

The police chief has made it clear that nobody apart from the voters will be allowed in the periphery of 100m from the polling booth. The police have also started two emergency numbers (22623054/22621983) for the citizen to report any election-related crime. "These numbers will be in service apart from 100. Two deputy commissioners of police will be manning the control room," he said.
