After the campaigning frenzy, politicians and citizens' groups are now waiting for the D-Day. The ball is now in voters' court.

On Tuesday, political parties made final appeals to voters by conducting promotional activities in all parts of the city.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan wooed voters in Kalina, while minister of state for housing Sachin Ahir urged voters to back his party candidates in a rally at Worli. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray visited the areas stretching from Mahim to Colaba, asking electors to support his partymen.

Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray was seen doing the rounds in Versova, Andheri and Mankhurd. Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde held a road show for a party candidate in ward number 193 (Shanti Nagar-Arthur Road). BJP's national executive team member Shaina NC visited ward numbers 84 and 216 as part of the right wing party's promotional activities. Besides, all-party candidates and citizen candidates reached out to voters in door-to-door meets during the last day of poll canvassing.

"Now voters can start deciding which candidate to vote for. We have uploaded information about candidates on websites for people to refer to. So, it will be easier for them to decide whom to vote for. They have informed choice by now about whom to vote," said Sharad Kumar, trustee of NGO AGNI.

He said it was an opportunity for people to increase voters' turnout this election.

Political parties have been urging voters to exercise their franchise. "Any party will wish that voters support its candidates, so do we. But in the larger interest of the city, we want people to go to polling stations. Whether they want to vote for the Shiv Sena-BJP combine is a different issue but they at least should come out to exercise their franchise," Raj Purohit, chief of Mumbai unit of BJP, said.

Purohit said his partymen have urged people to come out and vote. "Our team of activists will hold at least five rounds in each ward asking people to vote on the day," Purohit added.

Mumbai had registered a turnout of 49.14%, 44.15%, 42.05% and 46.05% during 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2007 polls respectively.
