Mayor Shraddha Jadhav is in a spot of bother. A trust run by her family has been accused of misusing a school building meant for educational activity.
The civic education department had allotted a two-storey school at GD Ambekar Marg in Parel to the Mukund (Anna) Jadhav Shaikshanik Trust for a nominal rent to carry out educational activities. Named after the Jadhav’s father-in-law, the trust was supposed to conduct pre-primary and higher classes in English and Marathi, apart from organising computer classes. It was also supposed to run a balwadi and an anganwadi at the site. Instead, it was using the space for storing of materials being used by a leading decorators company.
The company, Manohar Decorators, is owned by the Mayor’s husband.
The department has now served a show-cause notice on the trust threatening to cancel their agreement and take possession of the building.
Jadhav, however, said, “The school is in a dilapidated condition. How can I start educational activities in such an environment? I have been asking for permission to carry out repairs at the school for three years now, but am yet to be accorded one.”
