The recruitment process of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is facing allegations of irregularities.

Additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar on Wednesday said that a detailed inquiry of such allegations will be carried out and the report will be submitted in the next standing committee meeting.

Mangesh Bansod of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alleged that the recruitment process is not only slow but has a number of irregularities. “Reshma Uparkar, who had applied for the post of laboratory technician, was selected in a walk-in-interview. She was called for a medical test the next day. But subsequently, her name was deleted from the list and instead, someone else’s name was added,” he said.

Bansod alleged that the original name was deleted from the list under the pressure of influential people from the BMC. “There might be some political pressure too. But I demand a detailed inquiry,” he stated.

The BMC had given an ad for around 3,500 posts in 2008. Following the overwhelming response, the actual process of recruitment began in 2011.
