Don’t enter the civic headquarters and also don’t attend any meeting of elected representatives without official consent. This was the message given by civic chief Subodh Kumar to his officials.

Kumar’s new decision will give a blow to various BMC committee chairmen and corporators.

“They have the habit to call administrative officials meeting frequently to do their petty work. Some of the committee chairmen were misusing their power by changing decisions and policy through officials. Due to this, many officials were always busy attending the elected representative committee meetings. As a result, potholes filling, cleaning nullahs and keeping vigil on illegal construction were affected. Even, after spending Rs100 crore on potholes, the BMC was not able to give potholes-free road to citizens,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.

Kumar had held a meeting with all the department heads of BMC, ward officials and deputy municipal commissioner on Friday. “The strict instructions issued in the meeting stated that we should not entertain politicians . They land us in trouble. Another aim was, time management, so that the corporation can give effective service, resolve complaints and satisfy people,” the official added.

Ward officials welcomed the civic chief’s decision. “It will motivate us to work hard and do our duty honestly. We will not buckle under any political pressure now. Most of the time, these leaders insult us and treat us badly in the meeting. This will not happen any more,” ward official said.

Niyaz Wanu, NCP group leader also was happy with the civic chief’s decision. “If they will repair the road, clean the nullahs and drainage on time then, who will complain? Call  meetings with officials to finish the work on time. I am happy that this commissioner is  giving priority to the work. I hope his subordinate too will follow him leaving little room for  any complains,” said Wanu.

Rajendraparsad Chaube, Congress corporator said,“We do call meetings to coordinate with other officials such as Mhada, MMRDA etc. We too don’t want to spoil the officials schedule and waste our time,” said Chaube.
