The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to substantially hike the compensation package offered to families of firemen injured or killed, while attempting a rescue.
The civic administration has proposed to offer a compensation of at least Rs10 lakh going up to Rs18.20 lakh. The hike in compensation is sizeable, considering that a maximum compensation being offered presently is barely Rs5 lakh.
Municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak has justified the hike stating that the
current compensation offered was not sufficient for rehabilitating such families. The proposal is expected to come up at the civic standing committee on Wednesday, and is likely to get the nod.
