Kazi had uploaded his profile and even a photograph on LinkedIn, a professional networking site, under the name he had assumed while staying in Hyderabad for the past 10 years.
Taj-Ul Islam Kazi, the alleged main conspirator behind the 2002 Ghatkopar blasts, who was arrested from Hyderabad on Friday, was so confident about his freedom, that he was active on a social networking site. Kazi had uploaded his profile and even a photograph on LinkedIn, a professional networking site, under the name he had assumed while staying in Hyderabad for the past 10 years.
Kazi, who was staying in Hyderabad under the alias of Siddiqui Taj, was employed with HCL as a senior technical lead, earning a salary of Rs 70,000. Sources said that considering the position at which he was working, he had probably travelled abroad on several occasions. He may also have faked information regarding his 11 years of experience. He changed five jobs in Bangalore and Hyderabad before he was recruited by HCL in July 2011, according to his profile.
Nowhere in the profile has the accused mentioned about hailing from Aurangabad. Instead, the profile says that Kazi had studied in Chennai.
"The profile was probably created by Kazi. We are trying to find out if he is a part of any sleeping cell or an embedded module. We have to ascertain what the future plans of his group are, and whether they were planning to strike somewhere," said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police (crime), adding that Kazi could be the main link to get to other SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) operators who are in hiding.
Police are also trying to find out about his activities in Hyderabad for the past 10 years. Kazi was arrested on Friday from the city where he was hiding since 2002 after the Ghatkopar blast which killed two and left 49 injured. The bomb was placed in a BEST bus parked near the station.
Though the bus was empty, the high intensity blast occurred in a bustling locality causing casualties.
Kazi was staying in Hyderabad with his wife and five children. He has been remanded to police custody till December 3. Police are also trying to ascertain whether Kazi has spread his network abroad.
The police had named 29 accused in the case, out of which they managed to arrest only 19. Eight people were acquitted in the case. Four policemen came under the scanner for the death of Khwaja Yunus, who allegedly died in police custody. However, the police maintained that he had fled from custody while being taken to Ahmednagar for investigation.
