Standing committee chairman Ganesh Bidkar of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who defeated mayor Mohansingh Rajpal of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was confident when he walked towards the counting centre at Sanas Stadium near Sarasbaug.

“I bet I am going to win,’’ a smiling Bidkar told mediapersons as he entered the centre.

Later, after his victory was announced, Bidkar said, “I am thankful to voters who had faith in me and have given me an opportunity to work. My victory shows that my voters did not succumb to money power. I have won voters’ hearts because of my work.’’

On the other hand, Rajpal  said, “I accept the verdict of the people. The standing committee used public funds in the election.’’
