Deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who has a history of heart trouble and who has long been advised to lose weight, has been spotted taking  a helicopter to Pune since Thursday for private yoga sessions with renowned yoga guru BKS Iyengar. It was not known whether this was a government or private chopper.

Rumour has it that Bhujbal had been experiencing pain in his
chest during his morning walks recently.

Interestingly, while Bhujbal thought the visits were secret, his security team has ensured they are anything but. Three Pune police officers and 10 constables with a sniffer dog in tow have been swarming all over the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Model Colony. There are also three police jeeps and a dozen policemen posted outside. Officials at the institute said Bhujbal had requested complete privacy in the matter.

The sessions with Iyengar, which began from Thursday, last a good 90 minutes — from 10.30 am to noon.

When this correspondent went to the centre on Friday, his bag, camera and press card were thoroughly checked. When a request was made to Bhujbal’s personal assistant for a photograph and quote from Bhujbal, he said he would try. But, the deputy chief minister seemed furious when this correspondent met him on his way out. He rudely said, “I did not call you here. This is a strictly private visit. This is not the way. Now, the whole press will come here!”  Bhujbal, who was dressed in a white T-shirt and track pants, left in an official Honda CRV.
