Mumbai: The innovative plans of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking to introduce duck buses, which can run on both land and water, might not come to anything as the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) has refused permission to operate the buses from Gateway of India.

BEST had proposed the buses in August. However, most of the launch operators opposed them as it would eat into their business. BEST had planned to offer the buses exclusively for tourism at Rs100 to Rs150 for an hour.

"MMB suggested that we operate from Backbay, Worli or Mahim. But it isn't feasible as we wanted to take them around South Mumbai," said Dilip Patel, chairman of BEST committee.
