Mumbai: Buses run by civic transport utility BEST may soon start plying on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), officials said. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is waiting to sign an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mumbai Entry Point Ltd (MEPL), the company that collects toll on the sea bridge.

Once that materialises, BEST's AC and non-AC buses will pass through the engineering landmark which connects Bandra, a western suburb, to Worli in South Mumbai, they said.

"We are ready to ply BEST buses for a toll of Rs3,000 per bus a month. The express, super fast buses will run from Dahisar to Churchgate via Bandra Worli Sea Link, may be within two days or a week," BEST General Manager Uttam Khobragade said.

On whether the BEST will increase the fares on these buses, Khobragade said, "the fares will increase slightly." Since the sea link was thrown open to the public in early July, the BEST has been trying to convince the State Government to bring down the toll charges and allow it to ply buses on the 5.6-kilometers long cable-stayed bridge.

"The State had earlier proposed to levy Rs5,000 per bus per month to BEST for using the sea link but the BEST asked it to reduce it by Rs2,500. Things were not working out hence we looked for other options," an official said.
