A 51-year-old businessman shot himself in the head with his licenced revolver in his Lokhandwala flat in Andheri on Wednesday.
Rajender Singh Sahami, a diabetic, was bedridden for the last six months as he had developed gangrene on his foot.
He had also undergone a heart operation last year. “He might have got frustrated with his prolonged illness and hence, taken the drastic step,” said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police, zone 9.
Sodhi, an online trader, lived on first floor in Meghdoot Apartments with his wife, 25-year-old son and two daughters, aged 22 and 19 years. On Tuesday, one of his daughters had got engaged.
At 10.30am, when all his family members and relatives were at home, Sodhi went into bathroom and shot himself with his revolver. He had got the all India licence from Amritsar in Punjab a few years ago.
The family members rushed him to Kokilaben Hospital, but he was declared dead.
“The body has been sent for a post-mortem to RN Cooper Hospital. We have registered case of accidental death, but are still investigating the matter,” said senior police inspector Dilip Rupawate of the Oshiwara police station.
