A Bangladeshi national, found guilty on the charge of murdering his wife, was sentenced to life imprisonment by sessions court in Thane today.

The accused, Salim Hussain Afsar Ali, 25, from Khulana district of Bangladesh, came to Mumbra in Thane district two years ago. He married Reena Suman, alias Meena, 27 (also a Bangladeshi) and had two children from her.

He later learnt that Reena had married another man earlier when in Bangladesh, and had a child from that marriage.

Reema worked at a bar in Mumbai, which Salim did not like.

Angered by the discovery of her first marriage, and her refusal to quit bar job, he strangulated her on July 5, 2007 at the couple's Mumbra house, the prosecution said.

Additional sessions judge DN Bargande convicted Salim on the basis of circumstantial evidence.
