The Bandra Worli Sea Link has only added to the traffic woes of the residents of Bandra Reclamation. They met Sanjay Barve, additional commissioner of police (traffic), to find solutions for the never ending problem.
A right turn towards Lilavati Hospital is blocked and the traffic is diverted to Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg, and onto a by-lane which leads to KC Marg leading to the
sea link.
“We have suggested that traffic should flow onto General Arun Kumar Vaiya Road till it reaches KC Marg, instead of turning right into the by-lane. We have been assured that the area will be surveyed,” said Tushar Aphale, a resident and MNS zonal president, Bandra constituency.
When Barve was contacted he said, “I’ll look into the matter.” At the Worli side of the sea link, the route the Cathedral school buses take at present is affected in the afternoons as right turns are not permitted on Worli Seaface.
“The route has been changed a little as the area near Worli Hill is affected and pedestrian movement is severely restricted. Crossing from the Worli Seaface side is also a problem which needs to be looked into,” said Indrani Malkani, member of the Road Safety Committee, who had designed the Model school bus service for Cathedral, JB Petit, Bombay Scottish and Bombay International schools.
The incomplete sea link has added to the chaos created by the exiting cars at Worli. “The cars heading for Fort shouldn’t be exiting at the Worli-end. The problem cannot be resolved till the sea link is extended completely and all exit points at Haji Ali and Nariman Point are functional,” said Malkani.
