After the heinous murder of four youths in the Appapada Woods, Malad (East), the Kurar police have started picking up and warning all local goons that no crime will be tolerated.

“After this incident, it is believed that the senior police inspector, who was earlier in-charge of the police station, was reportedly not giving much attention to the area due to which the local goons never feared the police. But now the new officer in-charge at the Kurar police station has instructed all the officers to handle every case strictly,” said a police source.

“I have instructed the police station to keep patrolling the Appapada area and take strict action against the goons in the area,” said additional commissioner of police, Ramrao Pawar (north region).

“The five accused have been arrested by the crime branch as of now. Several others are still wanted in the case. We have formed a team and have sent them to different locations to trace the remaining wanted ones, “said Pawar.

The Mumbai police chief, Arup Patnaik accepted that bad policing led to the Kurar murder incident. “A person like Uday Pathak cannot become a devil overnight. If Pathak was a known criminal in the area, then why was he allowed to become a Frankenstein? I don’t know what the police was doing all these days. Because he was tolerated, he grew up to become a big criminal,” said Patnaik.

“There are so many such cases and I am going deep into them in a different way. We will surely get hold of Pathak,” Patnaik said.

Pathak, who is the main accused in the murders, has been absconding since the incident.
