Autos want to ply all over the city

Now, the auto rickshaw union has demanded that auto rickshaws be allowed to do business in the entire city. Presently, they are only allowed to ply in the eastern and western suburbs. They want island city and the extended suburbs to be in their reach too.

Taking a strict stand on the electronic meters issue, the union has said that it will not agree to the installation of electronic meters until and unless they are fully tamper proof, as mandated by the supreme court.

These demands are among a set of 22 concerning auto rickshaw men. To pressurise the administration into conceding their demands, a protest has also been declared at Azad Maidan on May 19.This protest may also be followed by a state-wide strike on June 15, Union leader Sharad Rao has warned.
