In a suspected road rage case, a 30-year-old Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activist was killed and his friend critically injured after autorickshaw drivers beat them up near Santosh Bhuvan in Nalasopara (East) on Friday evening. Police have detained two suspected auto-rickshaw drivers

The deceased youth has been  identified as Mahendra Patil (30), a resident of Nalasopara. The injured, Bharat Patil (32), has been admitted to Ravi Hospital in Vasai.  Sheru, one of the auto-rickshaw drivers, had fought with Bharat’s tempo driver over overtaking issue.

According to locals from Santosh Bhuvan, Bharat’s tempo was going to Gawarai from Nalasopara. While his driver Ankur was trying to pass through a narrow road near Santosh Bhuvan, he had a verbal fight with one local auto driver over the overtaking issue.

While Ankur called Bharat for help, the auto driver also called other auto owners for help. On receiving Ankur’s call, Bharat reached the spot with Mahendra and few other friends.

Meanwhile some auto-rickshaw drivers also reached the spot to support Sheru.

Within minutes the verbal fight took violent turn and a group clash broke out in which Mahendra received head injury. He died on the spot while Bharat was critically injured.

Seeing this, all the auto-rickshaw drivers fled from the spot.
Mahendra and Bharat were taken to Ravi Hospital where Mahendra was declared dead on arrival.
