Autism workshop to educate Pune citizens

The Pune Support Group for Autism, TDH Morris Centre KEM Hospital, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Sunderji’s Institutions have organised a workshop on autism in the city from December 17 to 19. The workshop will be held at Deenanath Mangeshkar auditorium.

The workshop, open for those whose children are facing problems related to autism, aims to throw light on the disorder and various problems related to it, said a press release.

The workshop will deliberate on causes and diagnosis of autism spectrum behaviour (ASD), early intervention strategies, behaviour and communication management of children with autism, techniques of sensory integration and exercises for children with autism, among others.

Director of Action for Autism, Merry Barua, developmental paediatricians of Ummed Centre, Drs Vibha Krishnamurty and Archana Kadam, occupational therapist at Ummed Centre, Anjali Joshi, special educator Sunita Lele, clinical psychologist Ujjwal Nene and department head, TDH Morris Centre KEM Hospital, Bindu Patni, director of Sunderji’s Institutions, Masarrat Tavawalla, will deliver lectures.

The last day for registrations is December 10. The entry fee for professionals is Rs2,000, for students or trainees is Rs1,500, for both parents Rs800 and single parent Rs500.

Registration can be done at Sunderji’s Institutions between 10 am and 2 pm at Bldg No 8, Vrindavan Society, behind Mira Society, off Shankarseth Road, Pune-37. Contact 26451425 or 26456611.
