Assistant police commissioner, MB Kurne had joined the force in 1979 as a police sub-inspector and had handled some of the most sensational cases during his tenure at the Mumbai crime branch.
Kurne played a crucial role during the investigations of the 11/7 serial Mumbai train blasts case in 2006. Under his supervision, the crime branch officials had made the first set of arrests in the case. Kurne had also questioned actor Salman Khan at his residence during the controversy of Bollywood movie Chori Chori Chupke Chupke.
Kurne is a rugby player and is closely associated with sports even while working with the police department.
His colleagues term him as one of the finest officers in the force. He has worked at various police stations in the city including, Malad, Vile Parle and Malwani. He had also worked in Raigad district as deputy superintendent of police and was recently posted at the protection and security branch of the Mumbai police.
