Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, today, announced financial assistance of Rs1 lakh each to the kin of those who died during cholera and gastro epidemic here after consuming contaminated water supplied by the Solapur Municipal Corporation.
Eight people had died while over 700 people were admitted to the government and private hospitals after complaints of stomach ache and omitting.
He also constituted a two member committee to investigate lapses in the water supply by the municipal corporation.
Chavan also felicitated the newly elected independent MLA Bharat Bhalke, who had defeated the NCP stalwart Vijaysinh Mohite Patil in Pandharpur constituency in the recently held assembly election.
He also assured the gathering that the holy town of Pandharpur and particularly the temple and nearby area would undergo beautification.
The heritage and the ambiance of the Vitthala temple would be maintained and the development of the temple would be made in such a way that the temple can be seen from anywhere, he said.
The government has appointed a collector with independent charge to oversee the work at the temple, he said.
