One of the three Ravi Pujari men, arrested by a special police team probing recent firings on city builders, is a key accomplice of the gangster. Ashok Chowdhari, 27, is also said to be responsible for Pujari recent surge in the underworld.
A special team headed by deputy commissioner of police MM Prasanna had been keeping a tab on Chowdhari for the past two months when at least four cases of extortion-firing on builders were registered at suburban police stations.
Chowdhari and his two aides were arrested from near Meghwadi area of Jogeshwari. The initial investigation revealed they had robbed an office in Matunga just a couple of hours before their arrest.
“Since he [Chowdhari] is said to be very close to Pujari, we suspect he might have information about all the recent firings on builders,” said ACP (west region) Amitabh Gupta.
Prasanna said that despite knowing the police are behind him, Chowdhari would still roam fearlessly.
