Club Exotica, located in Yeoor village in Thane district on the periphery of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), has moved the Bombay high court, challenging the conservator of forest’s decision not to allow its members and patrons to enter the area after sunset.

Prasad Kolambkar, who is the owner of the club and restaurant, has moved the court, stating that the forest officials are charging club members fees to enter the village and reach the club.

According to the petition, the club has been in operation for several years and no authorities have ever received any complaints against them. Further, the club has a bar and a restaurant which are functional up to 12am and 1.30am respectively. Members and patrons come there after hard work to de-stress with their families. On weekdays, there are around 50 visitors, while on weekends the number goes up to 200. The club has a capacity of serving 30 families and having 120 persons at one time.

It is further stated that the Yeoor village is under the Thane Municipal Corporation and is not part of a forest land. Moreover, the club has been regularly paying all the necessary taxes to the authorities and thus finds no reason why its patrons are being stopped at the Madhubhan gate and not allowed to reach the club after sunset, the petition reads.

The petition also relies on the high court order of January 6, allowing the members of the Golden Swan Club to enter the area after sunset but not to remain in the area from 11pm to 7am.

The petition prays to seek directions from the high court to forest officials and the state government to allow visitors to the club to enter the forest area leading to the Yeoor Hills. The petition will come up for hearing this week.
