In an unnerving incident of road rage, a man in his mid-20s was beaten so badly by a 35-year-old biker after his car hit the latter’s motorcycle that he was dead in a few hours.

The incident occurred near Navbima sports mall, Narayan Nagar, Ghatkopar, on Wednesday. The man, Javed Shaikh, 24, was a photographer and resident of Hill Nagar, Ghatkopar.

Shaikh, along with his nephew, had gone for a drive in his Tata Indigo in Narayan Nagar around noon, the police said. When his car hit Aarif Ansari’s bike, “Ansari, 35, pulled out Shaikh from his car and started assaulting him”, a police officer said. “He went on hitting him all over his body and also punched him in the stomach.

“A few passers-by stopped Ansari, after which Shaikh returned home and Ansari left for his sweetmeat shop near the mall.”
An hour later, Shaikh started vomiting and fell unconscious. He was rushed to the Rajawadi hospital by his family members but was declared dead before admission.

He had suffered severe injuries in his stomach.
Shaikh’s family registered a complaint against Ansari with the Ghatkopar police. Ansari was arrested in the evening and charged with murder. He was produced in the Vikhroli metropolitan magistrate’s court, which remanded him in police custody till March 23.

“Ansari said during interrogation that he assaulted Shaikh, but had no idea that it would result into his death. Also, when we arrested him, he was not ready to believe that Shaikh had died after being assaulted by him,” the officer said.
