In the State Assembly, leader of opposition Eknath Khadse has raised questions over the first information report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation and asked why the investigating agency has spared former chief ministers and now union ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde.

Khadse said that both the former chief ministers played a vital role in clearing the file of the Adarsh housing society between 2004 and 2005. “The government has sacked Ramanand Tiwari, former principal secretary in urban development department and Subhash Lalla, former secretary in chief minister office from their respective offices. Other officers also have been served notices. If the officers are being punished for their roles, why are political leaders being spared? Deshmukh and Shinde had their remarks and noting on the files in favour of the society,” he said.

Khadse said he has not seen the official copy of the CBI’s report and has no idea if the agency has further plans of adding the names of the former chief ministers who were directly related in clearing the Adarsh file. “We expect the case to be registered against both of them,” he added. Khadse said that the CBI inquiry should not be an eyewash.

Khadse also blamed the investigating agency for the delay in filing the FIR.

In the winter session of state assembly, Khadse alleged Deshmukh and Shinde had key roles in clearance of the Adarsh proposal. He had asserted that both of them had final remarks on the file of the society. Shinde also facilitated the society in reducing the ready reckoner cost of the land, he had alleged in the session in December 2010.
