Two girls from Madhya Pradesh tried to commit suicide by jumping off the Bhaucha Dhakka dock (Ferry Wharf) in Colaba on Sunday evening after they failed to find the office of Sa Re Ga Ma.
"We came to Mumbai to take part in the Sa Re Ga Ma music show. We had thought of taking up part-time jobs like working in a beauty parlour and spend three months in the city while trying to enrol ourselves in the show," said Ankita Chaurasia from her bed in St George Hospital on Monday.
"We, however, ran out of money on Sunday and no one helped us find the Sa Re Ga Ma office. We were sad and terrified of our mother's anger," she said.
"At 4pm, Ankita and her sister Archana jumped off the Bhaucha Dhakka. A few fishermen pulled them out of the sea," said police inspector Dilip Sawant from Yellow Gate police station.
"They had left Chachai village in MP on July 20 after taking Rs800 in cash from their mother for paying college fees. They reached Mumbai on Sunday. After freshening up at a lodge they set about searching for the office of popular music talent show Sa Re Ga Ma," he said.
Ashish Kaul, spokesperson for Zee TV, blamed their parents for being negligent. "It is fortunate that the girls are now in safe hands. We are ready to help them - we can even finance their return journey."
