Shiv Sena on Tuesday demanded a separate law which makes it mandatory for all agencies working in Mumbai to consult the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on their development plans and seek the civic body's permission before going ahead with them.

Talking to reporters after meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in Vidhan Bhavan here, Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray said "agencies like MMRDA do not consult the BMC while preparing their plans."

"When there are potholes on the roads, BMC is blamed. The civic body has more responsibilities and very less rights though Mumbai is the economic nerve centre of the country and capital of Maharashtra," he added.

Uddhav, whose party retained power in BMC in last month's civic election, was accompanied by senior leader Manohar Joshi, party MLAs and leaders.

Uddhav said the co-ordination committee meetings between the civic body and the Congress-NCP-led Government have not taken place for the last several years.

The Sena leader said he had brought to the notice of the Government law and order related problems in the state in the last few months, and cited the example of last week's robbery in a famous temple in adjoining Raigad district.

Replying to questions, Uddhav ruled out any political motive behind his meeting with the Chief Minister.

"One should not see any political move behind this. We met the Chief Minister to voice several issues concerning the common man," he said, when asked about his closed door meeting with Chavan after the delegation-level meet.
