Shiv Sainiks keep vigil to ensure evicted bar girls don't return to their homes
A day after Shiv Sena activists and residents evicted bar girls living in Kisan Nagar in Thane (W), an uneasy calm prevailed in the area.
There was no untoward incident, but Sainiks patrolled the area in groups and were on the lookout forbar girls who may attempt to return even as those who were still residing there were packing their bags.
Sena corporator Ram Repale, who led the agitation from the front with the tacit blessings of MLA Eknath Shinde, said, "Kisan Nagar will become the same nice place it was 10 years ago. Residents are happy about the change. Only a few bar girls are left and they too would leave by June 11, the deadline given to them."
On the other hand, Rekha Chauhan, one of the two members of the bar girls association was livid. "I had only gone to help the girls assaulted by the Sena men, but they caught me instead and bashed me up. It seems the Sena can do whatever it feels is morally right. If they really want to do something for us, they must give us jobs," she added.
Incidentally, Chauhan is an accused in a case of blackmailing an assistant commissioner of the Meera-Bhayender Municipal Corporation. She is out on bail. "Whenever we voice our issues, we are accused of things we haven't done or don't do," she alleged.
ACP Kashinath Kachre said, "The situation was under control. I have made it clear to the agitators that they cannot force the bar girls owning flats in the area to leave."
