A lawyer today filed a complaint with the police here against producers of the reality TV show Pati Patni Aur Woh on NDTV Imagine, its participants and parents alleging "exploitation" of infants.

"We received a complaint from advocate Sushan Kunjuraman who alleged producers of NDTV Imagine, parents of infants and participants ofPati Patni Aur Woh have exploited the infants," said R M Gavit, Inspector of Versova police station in suburban Andheri.

"We have recorded his statement and initiated an inquiry into the matter. Based on inquiry findings, if required, an FIR would be lodged," Gavit added. Kunjuraman (48) told PTI that the participants were not meting out appropriate treatment to the infants and one could easily make out that cameras were causing the children great distress.

"They (infants) are yelling and crying but the participants are not taking proper of care of the children," he alleged. "Parents of the infants are educated but it is very strange that they offered their children for the reality show," Kunjuraman said, adding "parents are equally responsible for the infants' suffering."

The advocate also objected to the title of the programme. "It (the title) should be mother, father and child. Pati and Patni and Woh conveys a wrong meaning," he said.

The show, an adaptation of BBC's Baby Borrowers, tests five celebrity couples' parenting skills. The police complaint comes close on the heels of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) asking the TV channel to stop telecasting the show.

The entertainment firm had moved the Delhi High Court against the order of the Commission which has said the show violates child rights. The court has, however, allowed the channel to continue the reality show, and stayed the Commission's order.
