Engineering, MBA, MCA and pharmacy students will have to wait a little longer till admissions to these programmes kick-off in the state. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has put the brakes on admissions as it is awaiting clarification from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) on approvals of new colleges and intake variations in existing colleges.
The AICTE approves new colleges and courses every year by June 30. This year the AICTE approved 116 new colleges for Maharashtra. However, clarity on details is missing and hence, admissions have been halted till further notice.
“Currently there is no clarity on new colleges and intake variations. We have asked AICTE to makes things clear and are expecting a response in the next two-three days. Once the clarification comes, we will issue a notification, which may be by the end of this week or beginning of next week. Till then, admissions are halted,” said SK Mahajan, director, DTE.
Though classes usually begin by this time across institutes, even the admission schedule has not been released till now
this year.
