NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad was today questioned by the CBI in connection with the Adarsh Housing Society scam.

Awhad is a member of the controversial 31-storey Adarsh Society in south Mumbai.

"Awhad was questioned as to how and when he became a member of the Society and the source of the funds with which he purchased a flat there," a senior CBI official said.

CBI registered a case in connection with the scam in January this year against 14 persons, which includes former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, retired Army officials and bureaucrats.

The agency has since then questioned several members of the Society and others, including secretary of the Society R C Thakur, chief promoter Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Brigadier M M Wanchoo, former deputy secretary of Urban Development Department P V Deshmukh and former joint commissioner of police (traffic) Sanjay Barve.
