The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on Tuesday told the Bombay high court that it would file its final report against 14 persons in the Adarsh housing society scam within eight weeks before a competent court.
Former chief minister Ashok Chavan is also one of the accused in the scam.
On January 29, the agency registered an FIR against the accused which include politicians and top bureaucrats.
The high-profile accused include Ramanand Tiwari, suspended information commissioner, RC Thakur, society’s general secretary, MM Wanchoo, retired Brigadier, KL Gidwani, Congress leader, retired Lt Gen PKRampal, Major Generals AR Kumar and TK Kaul, Brig (retired) RC Sharma, Pradeep Vyas, the then collector and PV Deshmukh, the then deputy secretary of the urban development department.
The division bench of justice SA Bobde and justice VK Tahailramani were told by the CBI counsel that the charge sheets in the missing files case would also be filed in the court within four weeks.
The statement was made while hearing PILs filed by social activists seeking that the court supervise the investigations. The court was also informed by the income tax (IT) department looking into the source of funds of society members that the assessment of several members has been reopened.
“Scrutiny notices have been issued to several members. Only nine of the members have given explanations. Reassessment of other members’ investments is being conducted,” said Suresh Kumar, IT counsel.
