The cyber crime department of the city police is probing a case wherein unknown persons created at least six fake profiles of
actor Sameep Vyas on social networking websites and then duped scores of young women with marriage proposals.

The police said that the matter was brought to their notice when Vyas learned from his friends about his stolen identity. “Further investigation is on,” said a cyber police official.

Sources said that the accused, after making the fake profile, targeted pretty girls by sending them friendship requests. After girls accepted the requests, the fraudsters would then slowly and gradually build up online relationships with them, eventually proposing marriage.

This is not the first time in the glamour world that an actor’s fake profile has been created. Recently, Sushant Singh Rajput, an actor in television show Pavitra Rishta, alleged that someone had created a fake profile of his and started conversing with his fans.

In yet another case, actress Yuvika Chaudhary registered a complaint of her fake profile being circulated on a popular  social networking site.  The content on the profile claimed that she was ‘available’.

The actress learned about it only when she was flooded with calls from unknown people, who said they had struck deals with her on the site.

A similar incident was reported by actress Malaika Arora Khan after someone created another fake profile claiming to be her.
