History is set be repeated on the 12.5-acre Indu Mills land, now that the  Republican Sena plans to enter the compound on April 14 and perform a bhumipujan for the memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Hundreds of Republican Sena activists, led by Anandraj Ambedkar, grandson of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, had stormed into the premises on December 6, 2011, and occupied the land for nearly two weeks.

The activists have already placed effigies of Ambedkar and Gautam Buddha inside the compound.

“We accepted the assurance given to us from the government and from the chief minister, that the land will be used for the construction of the memorial, and so we vacated it. It’s been three months since then and nothing seems to be moving ahead,” said Ramesh Jadhav, Mumbai chief of the Republican Sena.

Jadhav added that since the effigies of Ambedkar and Buddha had been placed in the compound, the activists would make it a point to perform the bhumipujan ceremony there on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Ambedkar on April 14.

“We are going to invite chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to attend the ceremony, and will also be extending the invitation to other leaders as well. Since there is no opposition from anyone for the proposal, there should not be any problem for them to attend the programme,” said Jadhav.

Major authorities, from the ruling parties to the opposition and even the National Textile Corporation, a Government of India undertaking, have given the green signal for the land to be used for the memorial. Several groups from the Republican Sena movement have agitated for the work on the memorial to begin.
